What to Expect on Sunday Mornings
Want to learn a little about SGC? The best way to get to know us is to stop by on a Sunday morning. But in the meantime, here's an overview of what you can expect when you visit a Sunday Service:
Time & Location
We meet on Sundays at 10:00 a.m. at Plank Jr. High in Oswego. (For directions, go here.) As you get closer you'll see signs directing you into the parking lot and to our main entrance, where you'll find friendly greeters who will be glad to help direct you to the main auditorium or to the Children's Ministry check-in center.
You'll find that most people dress fairly casually.
The Beginning of the Meeting
At 10:00 the music team will begin leading us in worshipping God together. The members of Sovereign Grace love Jesus deeply, and that shows up in the way they sing. The style of the music is upbeat and contemporary, and the atmosphere is joyful and expressive. After we’re done singing, you’ll hear a few brief announcements and there will be an opportunity for members to give tithes and offerings (but we never ask our guests to contribute financially!).
The Heart of the Meeting
At the core of the service, you’ll hear a pastor preach a message that is faithful to God’s Word, focused on Jesus Christ, and oriented toward practical application. We believe that Scripture-based, Christ-centered, relevant preaching is vitally important, so we typically devote about 40 minutes to the sermon. After that, we usually sing a song that allows us to respond to God's Word.
After the Meeting
The service will probably end around 11:30. But after that, you'll still find people praying with one another, laughing together, catching up on what’s been going on, or talking about the sermon for quite a while. We hope you’ll stay for a few minutes yourself.
