About: Meet the Pastors
Josh Fenska
As the lead pastor, Josh Fenska preaches regularly, leads the pastoral team, and cares for church members.
Josh and his wife Katie were married in 2005. They live with their three young kids in Oswego. Josh says that the summer is his favorite season, because of the opportunities it provides for grilling, following Major League Baseball, and hanging out with his family and neighbors outside.
He first visited SGC shortly after it had been planted, when he was a freshman at Wheaton College. Although Josh was a Christian who had grown up involved with his family's church in California, in his college years he began to realize that he needed far more grace than he wanted to admit. God used this church in significant ways in Josh's life in that season, so he stuck around after finishing his undergraduate studies. He then completed an M.A. at Wheaton as well, and went to the Sovereign Grace Ministries' Pastors College to be equipped for pastoral ministry. He has served as a pastor here since 2006, and as the lead pastor since September of 2011.
Jamie Maxim
In addition to caring for church members and other pastoral responsibilities, Jamie Maxim oversees church administration and the youth ministry.
Jamie became a Christian during his freshman year at Ball State University. Jamie met people on campus who were passionate about God in a way he'd not seen before. He began going with them to a nearby church, where his life was changed when he heard the gospel and came to trust Jesus.
In college Jamie also met his wife Angie. Three years later Angie said, "Yes" to Jamie's proposal, and they were married in May 1997. They now have three daughters and one son. Jamie grew up in western New York and loves the outdoors and rural America. He enjoys attending Cub Scouts events with his son, and other fun activities with family and friends.
Jamie attended the Sovereign Grace Ministries' Pastors College in 2005-2006. After graduating, Jamie served as an intern on the staff of Covenant Fellowship Church in Glen Mills, PA then served a church plant in Altoona, PA. Eventually, he came here to take a pastoral position in 2009. Jamie has said "It is truly a privilege God has given me to serve this precious people alongside faithful men."
Tab Trainor
The founding pastor of SGC, Tab Trainor served as the lead pastor for 13 years.
It is with bittersweet excitement that we say goodbye to Tab and his wife Sung and their four children as they follow God's calling. Deeply committed to the advance of the gospel, Tab is preparing to plant a new church in southern California later this year.
We will be forever grateful for Tab's leadership, example, and the loving sacrifices he made in planting and pastoring this church for 13 fruitful years.
